Not the national park
This is a State forest, not the national park
Tumut State Forest sits beside the town of Tumut. Forestry Corporation says most of the forest next to town used to be pine and is now mostly native bush. The day out they describe is Tumut Trail: walks and mountain-bike loops close to town, with views over the township and the Tumut River valley from parts of the network. This is not Bago State Forest, and it is not Kosciuszko National Park. Wereboldera State Conservation Area is next door, with a different manager. Dogs are welcome here under effective control. They are not welcome in the national park. Entry is free. Camping in NSW State forests is free and first-come, and Forestry Corporation does not name a campground in this forest. This site is an unofficial operator’s manual in the State Forest Guide Australia network. Check with Forestry Corporation before you drive.

What kind of forest day?

Ride or walk Tumut Trail
Beside Tumut · walkers and mountain bikes
The forest page names Tumut Trail. Parts of the network look over the township and the Tumut River valley. The map grades are intermediate or advanced only.

Start with an intermediate loop
Mundowie 3.3 km · Womboyne 2.3 km
Red Mundowie Loop and blue Womboyne Trail are the intermediate rides on the map. Nobody has published a time. Not independently walked.

Green is not easy here
MTB Loop 1.2 km · GC Mile 1.6 km · advanced
The forest page says the trails suit all levels. The map still calls GC Mile and the green MTB Loop advanced. Follow the grade, not the colour.

I typed a camp name
Different forest, or a national park
Paddys River Dam is in Bago. The Pines on Blowering Reservoir is in Kosciuszko National Park. Forestry Corporation doesn’t name a campground in this forest.
Best for
A walk or a mountain-bike loop close to Tumut, a dog under effective control, and a town bed if you are staying the night.
Skip if
You wanted Paddys River Dam, a booked forest camp, or a day in Kosciuszko National Park. You read the green MTB Loop as easy. You need a motorbike trail — those four trails are walkers and cyclists only.
